Here are some of the most common injuries and conditions we treat:
Here’s what you can expect from our team:
As board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma surgeons, we provide expert care in this specialized field. And we share our knowledge with the next generation of surgeons in our highly competitive orthopedic residency and fellowship programs. We also hold leadership positions in organizations like the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
We specialize in the latest orthopedic trauma techniques and treatments available, often performing less invasive or minimally invasive surgeries that lead to quicker and fuller recoveries. And we’re the only ones in the region who offer pioneering limb-lengthening procedures like osseointegration limb replacement (for bone-anchored prosthesis).
As the region’s top-rated health system with the top-rated orthopedic program, according to U.S. News & World Report, you can count on us to provide the highest quality care. We also have the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, which means we’re the most prepared and equipped to deliver the highest level of comprehensive care for critical injuries, including orthopedic trauma injuries.
We provide cutting-edge treatments through our vast orthopedic trauma research efforts. And our many successes have been recognized by multiple national research grant-funding agencies, leading to millions of dollars in current research funding.
Every case is unique. And so are our approaches to treatment. Sometimes an injury requires several surgeries in a very short period of time during hospitalization. And sometimes, we need to plan out multiple surgeries at different stages over a few months.
Whether it’s a high-energy extremity injury caused by a fall or a complex fracture around a joint that requires delicate, pinpoint accuracy, we provide the most effective treatment solution for your unique case and goals.
We’re also known for seeing alternative treatment options when other doctors say there aren’t any. For example, a patient with a long-standing bone infection may be told amputation is the only option. But we may see another way and suggest limb-salvage surgery to protect the use and appearance of the limb.
For older adults, 1 break all too often leads to another.
Based on research, if you’re 50 or older and have experienced a fragility fracture, you’re 2 to 5 times more likely to have a second fracture than someone who hasn’t had one. And after 2 fractures, the odds for a third break are even higher. A fragility fracture is a bone break sustained in a fall from standing height or less.
At Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute Fracture Prevention Program, we optimize bone health in older adults to reduce their risk of fragility fractures. Our program has been recognized as an Own the Bone Star Performer by the American Orthopaedic Association for our commitment to improving patient bone health after a fracture.
