Program Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to prepare our residents for independent practice as general neurologist or neuro-hospitalists. Trainees will have ample exposure to all major subspecialties within neurology to help aide in decision making regarding fellowship training if desired. The program is centered around the outpatient experience, with well over half of the training occurring in the outpatient setting including general continuity clinic, specialty continuity clinic and electives. The bulk of inpatient experience will be on the primary (admitting) stroke service as well as the general neurology consult service.

Resident Rotation Schedule

The intern year is focused on learning internal medicine but offers early exposure to neurology including rotations in the neuro ICU, psychiatry, and neuroradiology. Additionally, neurology interns will work in the neurology continuity clinic and begin to establish their outpatient panel.

During the second year, neurology residents will rotate on the neurology inpatient services including the Stroke and General Consult services. Second year residents will also have 2.5 blocks of elective time, as well as exposure to subspecialties in the specialty continuity clinics. They will spend two weeks covering the night float service at the end of the academic year.

During the third year, residents will rotate on the epilepsy service learning how to read EEGs, spend 2 blocks on the neuromuscular services learning how to perform EMGs, and spend time on the pediatric neurology service.  Third-year residents will cover most of the night float service.

During the fourth year, residents will return to the inpatient stroke and general consult services, this time serving as team leaders. They will also have 2.5 blocks of specialty electives and will oversee the outpatient continuity clinics administratively.
