Conferences

Resident Didactic Conference (Twice a week)

Recurring lecture series covering broad aspects of clinical neurology. Formal lectures or seminars are led by respective experts. The curriculum is covered over 18 months, however, some lecture series recur on a 12-month basis such as the acute stroke lecture series.

Grand Rounds (Once a month)

Formal lectures covering a broad array of topics in clinical neurology. Topics are focused towards the practicing general clinical neurologist. Additionally, there is a second, virtual enterprise grand rounds, once a month.

Morning Report (Once a week)

Resident formal case presentation and guided examination, localization, differential, assessment and plan. Focused towards junior residents and interns. Emphasis on history and exam.

Interesting Case Conference (Once a week)

Informal case presentation of interesting or challenging cases. Led by Senior attendings. Focused on teaching more senior residents complex decision making and experienced train of thought and rationale.

Journal Club/Evidence Based Medicine (Once a month)

Reviewing contemporary articles pertaining to clinical neurology. Residents will review the literature on a particular issue or topic recently encountered in clinical practice and select at least one pertinent article to present at the conference. Residents will discuss how one article relates to the greater body of evidence available in the literature. Residents will review the strengths and weakness of the study, methodologies, and study design using the PICO method (patient/population, intervention, comparison, and outcomes). Residents will summarize the findings and discuss how it relates to their patient or how it may change their clinical practice.

Seminars/Longitudinal Education Experiences

*Residents will complete a longitudinal quality improvement project over the course of their entire training. Residents will be assigned a mentor who will guide and advise the resident during the process. The outcome of the project should be substantial to the program and result in a significant impact on the community we serve. Residents will receive formal training on quality improvement through a formal lecture series on quality improvement will be given throughout the year. Residents will be supported and encouraged to present their work during their final year of training at Atrium Health’s yearly QI Symposium and are also encouraged to present their work at a regional or national conference.

*Embedded in the curriculum are lectures related to the business/finances of medicine pertinent to a practicing neurologist.
