Some children and teens struggle to achieve and maintain a healthy weight on their own. But you and your child aren’t in this alone. At Atrium Health Levine Children’s Weight Management, helping your child lose weight safely and have the future they deserve is what we do.
Through lifestyle changes and bariatric surgery when appropriate, we help your child form healthy habits and lower their risk of chronic diseases. With clinical care and an expert team, your child gets the support they need to be their healthiest self now and into adulthood.

Depending on your child’s unique condition and medical history, we’ll help you decide which treatment option is best for them.
Our program, Atrium Health Levine Children’s Healthy Futures, is always the first step to pediatric weight management. With individualized wellness plans, we help your whole family get on track to a healthy future.
When lifestyle changes aren’t enough on their own, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy (gastric sleeve surgery) can help your child achieve a healthy weight.
Atrium Health Levine Children’s offers full-service support for pediatric and teen weight management. Here’s why families trust us:
Your child will have a team specialized in pediatric weight loss. It can include pediatric bariatricians – doctors trained in pediatric weight loss – as well as pediatricians, surgeons, a nurse practitioner, a registered dietitian, an exercise physiologist, a licensed clinical social worker and more.
Our bariatric surgery program is accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Being an accredited MBSAQIP center means we meet the highest standards for safe, top-quality bariatric surgery. We’re also recognized as a Blue Distinction Center by Blue Cross Blue Shield for delivering exceptional specialized care.
Our patient-centered approach includes education and support for the whole family, as well as mental health services. We empower teens and keep them engaged in the journey, with cooking classes, support groups and events just for them. When your child turns 18, we seamlessly transition them to the adult weight management and bariatric surgery team within Atrium Health Weight Management.
BMI stands for body mass index. It uses your child’s height and weight to see if they’re within a healthy weight range for their age.
Although BMI is a helpful tool, it’s not a diagnosis. Talk to your child’s doctor to determine if they’re at a healthy weight.
Is your child in a healthy weight range? Use the CDC’s BMI calculator.
