Dr. Oesterheld is board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology (cancer and blood disorders) and is a leader in pursuing better treatments to beat childhood cancer. He specializes in treating neuroblastomas and sarcomas, with treatments like radiation therapies and experimental therapeutics. He is fluent in Spanish.

He is the endowed chair for the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation and the specialty medical director at Atrium Health Levine Children's Cancer & Blood Disorders, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Oesterheld has been named a Top Doctor by Charlotte Magazine for many years.

He’s also the principal investigator for Carolinas Kids Cancer Research Coalition, in conjunction with the developmental therapeutics program at Levine Children’s Hospital.
