Biography

“Working to help children and families see that there’s hope, even when their child's body is very ill, is the best job in the world.”

Dr. Pope specializes in providing care for children who have cancer, both during and after treatment. She is passionate about supporting children and their families to be as healthy as possible in mind, body and spirit.

Dr. Pope serves as director of supportive medicine in the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (Cancer) Department. She received a St. Baldrick Foundation Fellow award during her fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Pope is board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology.

Dr. Pope always wanted to be a doctor. She remembers being a little girl and using hair barrettes to give “shots” to her dad to cure him of made-up illnesses. She was drawn to oncology because of her love of science and her fascination with how hard our bodies work to keep every cell in check.

She received her medical degree from Southern Illinois University. She followed that with a residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. In 2020, she completed an integrative medicine fellowship from the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Pope uses research to help improve the lives and outcomes for children who have cancer. For example, she has been involved in studies to improve sleep for children with cancer and to decrease pain, nausea and anxiety for kids needing surgery.

In her free time, Dr. Pope loves spending time kayaking, hiking and biking with her husband and children. She is an adventurous cook and traveler and a fan of historical fiction and autobiographies.
