Biography

Dr. Soliman is board certified in general, forensic and geriatric psychiatry. He is a forensic psychiatrist and an emergency department psychiatrist at Atrium Health Behavioral Health Charlotte, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center. His expertise includes treating and evaluating forensic and civil patients. Dr. Soliman provides consultation in civil and criminal matters, including determining competence to stand trial, sanity at the time of the act, psychiatric malpractice, testamentary capacity and undue influence. He performs forensic psychiatric evaluations at Broughton Hospital (NC).

Dr. Soliman is a clinical associate professor at Wake Forest University and holds academic appointments at Case Western Reserve University and the University of North Carolina.

In his previous roles, he served as an attending psychiatrist at Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare and as associate director of forensic psychiatry of the former Cleveland Campus of Northcoast. Dr. Soliman was a forensic psychiatrist at the Cuyahoga County Court Psychiatric Clinic and the City of Cleveland Municipal Court Psychiatric Clinic. As an expert instructor, he provided crisis intervention training for the Cleveland Police Department.

Dr. Soliman serves as chair of the Geriatric Psychiatry and the Law Committee at the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. He is a past president of the Midwest Chapter of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

Dr. Soliman is active in teaching residents, medical students and forensic psychiatry fellows. He regularly presents at national conferences. He has also given presentations to continuing legal education conferences, community audiences and adult protective services workers. He was awarded the Golden Apple award by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, which is given to an outstanding early career teacher in a forensic fellowship.

Dr. Soliman received his medical degree at Wayne State University, where he also completed residency in psychiatry and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship. He completed his forensic psychiatry fellowship training at Case Western Reserve University.
