Programs

Summer Education Program

 Great for full-time students fulfilling CPE requirements for divinity school, seminary, or other degree programs

  • 10-12 weeks, 40 hours per week
  • Open to students seeking an initial experience of service/ministry in a pluralistic healthcare setting
  • Areas of focus include developing one’s identity and skills as a spiritual care provider
  • Includes overnight and weekend “on call” responsibilities

Part-Time Extended Unit

Great for part-time students seeking CPE while maintaining other part-time or full-time employment

  • 26-week program, approximately 16 hours per week (set education schedule, more flexible clinical hours)
  • Open to students who seek an initial experience of service/ministry in a pluralistic healthcare setting
  • Areas of focus include developing one’s identity and skills as a spiritual care provider
  • Includes overnight and weekend “on call” responsibilities at some locations

Chaplain Residency Program

 Great for students committed to 12-15 months of full-time chaplaincy and training in preparation for chaplaincy Board Certification or discernment

  • 12–15-month program (depending on location), full-time hours that include overnight and weekend responsibilities at both locations
  • One previous unit of CPE required for CMC (not required for Cabarrus)
  • Areas of focus include preparation for Board Certification through the Association of Professional Chaplains and discernment of service/ministry vocation 
  • $18.50/hour (approximately $38,480/year) stipend for 12 months; free individual medical insurance; dental, vision, and family medical plans available for a small monthly payment; 7.38 hours of PTO accrued per bi-weekly pay period (approximately 24 days/year)

Certified Educator Training

Great for students who have consulted with their certified educators and faculty about this path and are committed to multi-year intensive training

  • 3+ year program
  • At least 4 CPE units required
  • Areas of focus include preparation for certification as an educator through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education
