Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) offer a collaborative program through which registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree in nursing have the opportunity to obtain the skills necessary to begin practice as a professional nurse anesthetist. Students completing this program graduate with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice and a Certificate in Nurse Anesthesia and are eligible to sit for the National Board of Certification and Recertification’s (NBCRNA) National Certification Examination for Nurse Anesthetists. Successful completion of the exam qualifies the graduate to use the title of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

The Doctorate of Nursing Practice component of the program is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K St. NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791. Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.

The nurse anesthesia component of the program is accredited through Carolinas Medical Center Nurse Anesthesia Program by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). Accreditation from the Council has been granted through May 30, 2024. Additional contact information for the COA is listed below:
