Register for the Integrative Chaplain Certificate Course

Introduction

This 70-hour online course begins November 15 and certificates are awarded the following mid-November. The course will use proven integrative medicine therapies to enhance the integration of chaplaincy skills for Board-Certified Chaplains and experienced chaplains who work in healthcare.

Up to 20 students can be accommodated in the Integrative Chaplain Certificate Course. Admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Each calendar year, the application deadline is October 15. Selections will be made by November 1 and the course begins mid-November.

Participant Requirements

Chaplains are to complete 30 online modules and demonstrate skills in five of the modalities listed below.

Total Time Commitment
12 months = 70 hours
  • Online modules - 30 hours
  • Case presentations - 26 hours (12 case reports of 1-3 pages each)
  • Video preparation - 8 hours
  • Mentor consultation - 6 hours

The video will be presented in September to a mentor. It will demonstrate integration of an integrative healing modality into the spiritual care of patients, families or staff.

David Carl David E. Carl

Chaplain David E. Carl is Executive Director of Spiritual Care and Education at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC. He is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church who has served in chaplaincy for 40 years.

David is a Certified Educator in the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education and is a Board-Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. He has served in leadership positions for both of these national organizations and received the prestigious Anton T. Boisen Award from the Association of Mental Health Clergy in 1998 for his creative leadership in the field of religion and mental health.

David remains active on the Atrium Health Ethics Committee, Diversity and Inclusion Council, and Patient Experience. He also leads the Atrium Health Code Lavender program which stretches over three states, 50 hospitals and 900+ care locations.
