At Atrium Health Levine Children's, our pediatric cardiac specialists offer compassionate, focused care for your child's hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a condition that causes the left side of the heart to be underdeveloped.

From diagnosis with our fetal heart clinic, through treatment and follow-up care, our expert team will be with you and your child every step of the way.

Our heart surgery program, named one of the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report, gives your child the most advanced surgical treatment for HLHS – and gives you peace of mind that your child's heart care is in good hands.

Treatment for hypoplastic left heart syndrome

When your child has been diagnosed with HLHS, experts usually recommend a series of 3 surgeries to correct the condition. The first surgery typically occurs just a few days after your baby is born, the second takes place around 6 months and the third surgery is recommended when your child reaches the age of 2 or 3.

Our expert pediatric heart surgeons partner with you to develop a personalized care plan for your baby. And when it's time for surgery, we offer some of the best outcomes in the country for these procedures.

The HEARTest Yard

The HEARTest Yard fund was created by former Carolina Panthers player Greg Olsen to remove some of the challenges faced by families of children with congenital heart defects. The program provides services to families after they leave the hospital, including in-home private nursing care.
