Visits from family and friends bring happiness and comfort to our pediatric patients at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital. A visit can brighten up a patient during a trying day. We've provided some useful visitor information below. Before your next visit, we recommend reviewing our full list of latest visitor policies. If you have any questions or concerns, your care team is here to help.

In an effort to keep Levine Children's Hospital a safe environment, everyone entering the hospital, including patients and guests, will pass through our weapons detection system. Please leave and lock any items that may be considered a weapon at home or in your vehicle before entering the building.

Visiting hours at Levine Children's Hospital (all floors except neonatal and pediatric intensive care)

Parents and guardians are welcome to stay 24 hours a day.
We encourage parents and guardians to spend as much time with your child as possible — especially overnight. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay 24 hours a day. Siblings may visit as your child's condition allows, but we ask that they not spend the night in the hospital.

Visitors who are not parents or guardians are highly encouraged to limit visits between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. so that patients can get the rest they need.

Patients may have up to 4 visitors at their bedside at one time.

Helpful tip: If your child is not up to receiving visitors, you can rely on our staff to ask well-wishers to come back at a later time. Your child’s well-being is our first priority!

For the safety of all patients, we also ask that you:

  • Check with your child's nurse before bringing children younger than 13 years old to visit.
  • Let your child's nurse know if you are taking your child (the patient) off the unit.

Visiting in neonatal intensive care and neonatal progressive care

We know how important it is to spend time with your new baby, and we encourage you to visit often while your baby is under our care.

Our neonatal nurseries provide critical care for babies who are born prematurely or need special support. We’ll help you feel comfortable around the unfamiliar sounds, smells and equipment you’ll find there. As your baby grows more stable, you’ll be able to hold and rock them and help hospital staff with other care functions.

For the safety of your baby and all the babies in our unit, please follow these visitor guidelines:

  • Parents and guardians are welcome 24 hours a day and must wear an identification bracelet that matches their baby.
  • Non-parent or guardian visitors are welcome from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Child visitors are welcome, too – including siblings age 2 and older, as well as unrelated visitors age 13 and older. Please don’t leave any child unattended in the waiting room, hallway or care unit.
  • If you have symptoms of illness – such as cough, fever or congestion – we kindly ask that you postpone your visit until you’re feeling better.

For your convenience, our family waiting room is available 24 hours a day.

Respiratory illness season (typically October through March) will likely impact visitor guidelines at all hospitals, including Levine Children’s Hospital. Please check with your baby’s care team for the latest policies.

Please note: During an emergency or special procedure, we may ask you to step out of the nursery. Please wait in the family waiting room, and a member of our staff will bring you back to your baby’s bedside as soon as possible. If your baby’s condition changes, you will be notified immediately.

Visiting in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and cardiovascular intensive care unit (CICU)

The intensive care units provide specialized care for children with very serious medical problems, major surgeries or serious injuries. We encourage you to visit your child often and touch, talk to and interact with them. We will work with you to feel comfortable around the unusual sights, sounds and smells of the unit.

For visiting parents and legal guardians:

  • Space is limited in these rooms, only 2 people at a time will be able to be at the bedside at any given time.
  • Parents or guardians will be assigned a wrist band for access to the unit.
  • Additionally, 4 additional individuals can be chosen by parents or guardians and allowed to visit while the patient is in the PICU or CICU. These individuals will be given armbands as well and will not be able to switch out with other people during the patient's time on these units.
  • Due to space limitations in the patient rooms, only 2 armband holders can spend the night.
  • Different restrictions may apply based on the patient's needs or time of year.
  • Due to the complex conditions of our patients, we ask that siblings visiting be 13 years and older.

Helpful tip: We encourage you to bring a special toy, blanket or personal item for your child. You can also bring a family photo to make their room feel more like home.

If you have any questions about visiting hours or who can visit your child while they are in the hospital, please ask a member of your child’s care team.
