Atrium Health Levine Children’s Pediatric Extended Care

All children, from newborns to teens can be seen at Pediatric Extended Care. We are happy to provide care for children who:

• Already see a pediatric primary care provider, whether it’s with Atrium Health Levine Children’s or not
• Don’t have a pediatric primary care provider
• Need care for illness or injury after hours or on a weekend
• Need a checkup or preventive care visit and prefer or need to be seen after hours or on a weekends

We offer both sick and well-child care but only on weekday evenings and weekends. We understand that it can be hard to take your child to the doctor during regular business hours, so we designed Pediatric Extended Care – the region’s first and only dedicated after-hours and weekend pediatric primary care office – to give you more convenient options.

You must make an appointment with Pediatric Extended Care. We don’t take walk-ins.

We do offer both virtual and in-person visits. Simply choose “in person” or “video” when scheduling your child’s appointment to get the care they need.

Pediatric Extended Care is a true pediatric primary care practice. You can see us for all the same things you would go to a traditional pediatric practice for, including:

• Minor injury or illness
• Newborn care and well-child visits
• Vaccines, including COVID-19 and flu
• Developmental, hearing and vision screenings
• Chronic condition management and treatment
• School, camp and sports physicals
• Lab services
• Breastfeeding advice

Urgent cares only treat illnesses (like sore throats, earaches, fevers, upset stomachs, colds and flu) and injuries (like sprains, strains and broken bones). They do not provide well-child or preventive care. Pediatric Extended Care handles both illnesses and injuries, as well as wellness visits and preventive care.

Also, you need an appointment to be seen at Pediatric Extended Care. Urgent care clinics typically take walk-in patients.

Pediatric Extended Care definitely can be your child’s home for primary pediatric care. Like all other Atrium Health Levine Children’s pediatric practices, our expert providers offer every type of pediatric care your child might need. Atrium Health Levine Children’s also includes Levine Children’s Hospital, the region’s only Best Children’s Hospital  ranked by U.S. News & World Report, more than 30 pediatric specialties, 24-hour pediatric emergency departments and the region’s only pediatric urgent cares.

And no, you don’t have to use Pediatric Extended Care as your child’s main pediatric provider. We’re here for all kids who need care after hours during the week or on weekends, sick or well. However, you must have an appointment. We do not see walk-ins.

If your child usually sees another Atrium Health Levine Children’s provider, medical records from their visit to Pediatric Extended Care will be automatically shared. If your child usually sees a provider who is not part of Atrium Health Levine Children’s, you can request records to be send to their pediatrician’s office.

Children typically have frequent well-child visits in the first few years, then once a year starting at age 3. These visits include vaccinations, as well as routine screenings and measurements. See the complete checkup and vaccine schedule from birth to age 18.

A few days before your child’s appointment, you’ll receive an email and text reminder about their visit. These messages will include a link to MyAtriumHealth, where you can check in online before your appointment. eCheck-In includes quick questionnaires about your child’s health history and allergies, as well as confirming insurance information is correct.

Yes! We know it’s not always easy to sit in a waiting room with little ones, and sometimes you just want to avoid extra germs. For your convenience, you can check in online using eCheck-In and wait from the comfort of your car until it’s time for your visit.

On the morning of your appointment, you’ll receive a text reminder. Simply reply “HERE” to let us know you’re waiting in your car, and we’ll text you when your provider is ready.

MyAtriumHealth is our patient portal, where you can schedule appointments, send messages to your child’s doctor, request prescription refills and pay bills. You can also access virtual care options, including urgent care video visits, eVisits and live chats with pediatric nurses.

When your teen turns 13, they can request their own MyAtriumHealth account and parental access automatically becomes limited. This change is required by state law to protect your teen’s privacy and help them feel comfortable seeking care for sensitive issues.

Follow these steps when your child turns 13:

• Step 1: After turning 13, your teen requests their own account during an in-person visit, with verbal consent from a parent or legal guardian.
• Step 2: Your teen receives an activation email or text to create their account. (Make sure they have their own email address or phone number.)
• Step 3: Once your teen’s account is set up, you can request limited parental access by phone, at the office or in MyAtriumHealth. This lets you help your teen schedule appointments, manage billing, send messages to their doctor, view allergies and immunizations, and request a copy of their medical records. You won’t be able to see appointment history, upcoming appointments or visit notes.
