Biography

“I have a passion for maintaining access to the most current high-quality surgical care for my community.”

Dr. Eckenrode is board certified in general surgery. She has clinical interests in breast surgery and minimally invasive surgery, including robotics and hernia repair.

Dr. Eckenrode is the medical director of the Breast Health Center at Atrium Health Cleveland and Levine Cancer Institute Cleveland, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center. She has worked to integrate surgical clinics into Levine Cancer Institute Cleveland and add additional multidisciplinary breast care conferences, working towards national accreditation with the NAPBC (National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers).

As the chair of the Robotic Surgery Committee at Atrium Health Cleveland, she supports the ongoing availability of robotic surgery to patients in her community and optimizes the utilization of this technology.

Dr. Eckenrode is particularly interested in using robotics during general surgery, which allows for more complex hernias to be repaired with a minimally invasive approach while keeping mesh outside the abdominal cavity in a more optimal position.

Dr. Eckenrode received her medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed residency at the University of South Carolina. After graduation, she returned to her hometown to serve her community at Atrium Health General Surgery Shelby, alongside her first mentors from Shelby Surgical Associates. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

As a Christian, Dr. Eckenrode enjoys her calling to serve her community in their times of medical need and enjoys being actively involved with her church. As a mother, Dr. Eckenrode enjoys spending time with her immediate and extended family in Shelby, NC. She enjoys horseback riding, tennis, and anything outdoors, including a good game day at her undergraduate alma mater, Clemson University.
