Biography

“With great enthusiasm, I see patients every day who have a wide variety of clinical conditions and frequently maternal and fetal complications. I assure each patient receives the most comprehensive and compassionate care they deserve.”

Dr. Mateus Nino is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) and maternal fetal medicine. He specializes in diabetes, obesity and infectious diseases in pregnancy, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, fetal growth restriction, multiple gestation, preterm births and prenatal screenings for aneuploidy (abnormal number of chromosomes).

He is the director of the Atrium Health Resident Research Committee for the Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine.

For Dr. Mateus Nino, attending his first delivery during his OB/GYN rotation was the most amazing experience during his 6 years of medical school. Since then, he has trained in 2 OB/GYN programs, one in his native country of Colombia and one in the US. He then pursued a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine that provided him with clinical skills essential to provide the highest quality care to the high-risk pregnant population in his community. He is fluent in Spanish.

The primary goals of his clinical practice are to prevent adverse clinical outcomes, fully inform patients and family members about sonographic and clinical findings, offer the best therapeutic options and outline the recommended care during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

He received his medical degree at The University of Texas. He completed a residency at Abington Memorial Hospital and a fellowship at The University of Texas.

He is involved in ongoing research studying maternal health disparities, hypertensive disorders and diabetes in pregnancy and cervical cerclage. He is the co-investigator for funded research titled, "Long Term Maternal and Infant Complications of Pre-eclampsia."

Outside of work, he loves spending time with his family and children hiking and traveling domestically and internationally. He is an avid runner and has completed many 5K, 10K and half marathon races. He enjoys watching local and international soccer and loves to read biographies and books about history.
