LifeShare, a not-for-profit organization, facilitates transplants throughout 22 counties in southwestern North Carolina, serving as the link between patients who need transplants and the donors who make those transplants possible. LifeShare works closely with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which maintains the national transplant database.

UNOS manages the nation's organ transplant system and ensures that its strict guidelines are met and enforced.
