  • What

    Eight-week paid research experience in the Department of Surgery at Atrium Health - Charlotte. Selected students will be participating in ongoing research projects, and will also have opportunities to participate in shadowing experiences, educational conferences, community-service activities, mentoring sessions, and social events.

  • Why

    The purpose of REACH is to increase interest in, and insight into, the rewarding career opportunities that exist in the field of healthcare for undergraduate URiM (Under-Represented in Medicine) students, and to enhance the likelihood of gaining access to careers in healthcare through direct engagement with, and mentorship by, successful medical professionals.

  • Who

    Undergraduate URiM* students who are currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate institution, and who are interested in a career in the healthcare field. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate education.

  • When

    Official dates for the program are June 1- July 30, 2022. Selected students will need to complete a comprehensive 2-4 week on-boarding process prior to the June 1st start date.

  • Where

    The majority of REACH activities will occur on the campus of Atrium Health-Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Community-service activities will be focused on the communities we serve adjacent to our campus. Opportunities may exist to work remotely for some research-related activities, but housing, and transportation to and from Medical Center campus and community-service project sites will be the responsibility of the REACH students

  • How Much

    Students will be compensated at an institutional rate of $16.00 per hour. Based upon an anticipated 40-hour work week, and an 8-week program, overall compensation will be approximately $5100.00.
