Does this affect other programs at Atrium Health?
No, this will not affect other programs at Atrium Health. The System’s two other schools with nursing programs – Carolinas College of Health Sciences and Cabarrus College of Health Sciences – will remain fully-functional. Individuals, groups or programs affected by this restructuring will be notified.
Is Carolinas College or Cabarrus College considering adding evening classes?
At this time neither Cabarrus College nor Carolinas College offers an evening pre-licensure nursing program nor has immediate plans to do so. Both colleges regularly evaluate their programs and program schedules and the feasibility of an evening nursing program will be part of that ongoing strategic planning.
Is Carolinas College or Cabarrus College considering an increase in enrollment?
Both Carolinas College and Cabarrus College regularly evaluate workforce need within the region and adjust enrollment accordingly. This process will continue and will take into consideration the impact of changes at Mercy School of Nursing. At this time, neither Carolinas College nor Cabarrus College have immediate plans to increase the number of pre-licensure nursing students enrolled.
