For more than 40 years, Atrium Health has played an active role in providing clinical education for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill medical students. In a pioneering move, UNC partnered with the System as a satellite campus, formally naming it UNC School of Medicine-Charlotte Campus in 2010.
Led by Dr. Heather Tarantino, assistant dean and director of the Charlotte campus, students at UNC School of Medicine-Charlotte Campus learn from a dedicated team of physician-educators in the dynamic environment of a leading urban medical center.
Third year students spend half of the year rotating in modified- block, in-patient specialty areas and the other half of the year rotating with community preceptors in a longitudinal integrated curriculum. With advice and guidance of both Charlotte mentors and Chapel Hill advisors, students plan a fourth year of medical school that may include some of the 100+ courses offered in Charlotte or the many rotations offered across North Carolina.
