Meet the Faculty
The Surgical Critical Care/Acute Care Surgery Fellowship at CMC strives to provide a high-volume, diverse pathology experience to fellows in trauma surgery, surgical critical care and emergency general surgery. Our faculty members are committed to successfully training acute care surgeons to be clinically adept, academically prepared and administratively active. The strength of our program lies in our diverse and engaged faculty, as well as our high-volume, high-acuity patient population.

Program Curriculum
The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship is a 1-year program designed to train academic surgeons with specialty interests in trauma and surgical critical care, within a collaborative, innovative and fast-paced care environment. Our core 16 faculty members are dedicated to teaching and mentoring, exposing fellows to a variety of critically ill surgical and trauma patients, as well as many bedside ICU procedures including tracheostomy, PEG, IVC filter, bronchoscopy and critical care ultrasound.
The Acute Care Surgery Fellowship is a 2-year program that begins with the ACGME-approved Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and is followed by an AAST-certified Acute Care Surgery Fellowship. The Acute Care Surgery Fellowship provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary experience with rotations in trauma, emergency general surgery, hepatobiliary, vascular surgery and cardiothoracic surgery with opportunities for advanced minimally invasive surgery experience. Research opportunities are available, primarily through clinical, database and industry trials.
Rotations
Surgical Critical Care fellows will have core rotations within the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit, a high-volume, mixed population surgical and trauma ICU with a variety of disease pathology and acuity. Additional rotations include the Medical Intensive Care Unit, Cardiovascular Recovery Unit, Anesthesia and Emergency Medicine Ultrasound, as well as optional electives with Cardiac Critical Care, Nephrology, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Burns and Echocardiography.
Acute Care fellows will have rotations with Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, Hepatobiliary, Vascular Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery with opportunities for advanced minimally invasive surgery experience.
Acute Care Surgery fellows manage an outpatient continuity clinic to expand opportunities in the peri-operative management of trauma and EGS sequalae surgery.
