Nearly 1 in 5 children from the age of 2 to 19 are obese. With so many children at risk, swift action is needed to address the challenge. Because pediatric practices provide care for this vulnerable population, they have the unique opportunity to make a difference for their communities by teaching healthy behaviors to last a lifetime.
Led by Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Hospital, Healthy Together in Healthcare is providing pediatric practices with the tools needed to promote healthy behaviors and aid in the prevention of childhood obesity. Well-child visits are the perfect time to guide parents and provide families with the resources to build healthy habits.
From childcare centers to schools to doctors’ offices, Healthy Together is providing consistent messaging across our communities to help children and families make healthy choices. Healthy Together uses the 5-2-1-0 message across various settings where children live, learn and play to encourage families to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, spend 2 hours or less on recreational screen time, get at least 1 hour of physical activity, and drink 0 sugary beverages every day.
We use evidence-based strategies to improve the policies, practices and environments that influence healthy eating and active living in childcare and out-of-school environments.
The Healthy Together program promotes following the 5-2-1-0 model daily: 5 or more servings of fruits and veggies, 2 hours or less of recreational screen time, 1 hour or more of physical activity and 0 sugary drinks.
Once you become a registered site, you’ll have access to resources and support that make implementing Healthy Together (and 5-2-1-0) at your childcare center simple – and fun!
With over 30 pediatric practices and growing, we’re providing education to over 117,000 children during their preventive visits.
