The primary care sports medicine fellowship is a one-year program designed to provide an additional education and experience opportunity for those interested in focusing on sports medicine as a part of their professional career. The fellowship is an ACGME accredited program sponsored by Atrium Health Cabarrus and the Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program, which is affiliated with the Charlotte Area Health Education Center.

Our program focuses on continuing the physician's skills in primary care while gaining direct experience in sports medicine and musculoskeletal care by assuming the primary role as team physician at the high school level and taking an active role in the coverage at the Division II level in all sports through Catawba College and the Division I level through Davidson College. The sports medicine fellow works in a variety of settings, including the training room, sidelines and clinically in the orthopedic office and in our dedicated Sports Medicine and Injury Center under the supervision of faculty who have extensive experience in sports medicine and musculoskeletal care.
