Program Overview

Atrium Health Cabarrus, part of Advocate Health, is a progressive 457-bed hospital located just 20 miles from Charlotte in Concord, NC. Program Structure

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Atrium Health Cabarrus is a 52 week, full-time residency beginning mid-June of each year. Clinical, operational, and educational aspects of pharmacy practice are emphasized during this comprehensive training experience. Developing skills to provide safe medication use through patient-focused, evidence-based medication management is the foundation and focus of our training. A fundamental feature of the residency is a commitment to regular and extensive interaction between the resident and preceptors.

Residents may select 3 elective rotations based on their interests and specific career goals. Each resident will meet quarterly with the residency program director to discuss the resident's individual goals and may tailor their schedule to meet such goals as well as maximize the resident's opportunities for learning experiences. The resident will also complete a project during the year and have the opportunity to submit their results for publication.

There is also a required staffing component. Residents will be scheduled a shift once a week Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Additionally, residents will work approximately every fourth weekend to fulfill the staffing requirements of the program. Upon completion of the program, trainees are awarded an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited residency certificate.

Benefits

Residents receive full benefits, including medical and dental coverage with premiums paid by the employer. Up to 25 paid days are available for vacation, sick time, interviews and an additional 6 days paid for conference attendance. A travel allowance will be provided to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, a regional residency research symposium and/or other selected meetings. Residents are provided with dedicated office space containing individual double monitor desk top computers, phones and storage/filing space as well as a shared printer. In addition, residents receive remote access to the hospital network, comprehensive drug information resources, a lab coat, a meal allowance, and free parking. The Department of Pharmacy also has an active continuing education program, with opportunities offered on a routine basis.

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Atrium Health Cabarrus provides residents with the skills and knowledge required to become competent pharmacy practitioners.

The program is an ASHP-accredited 52-week postgraduate training experience.
