Why CMC?: CMC is a large academic medical center that offers an array of robust clinical rotations, code-response training and layered learning. CMC’s emphasis on mentorship stood out to me, as I wanted to have support and guidance during my transition from student to resident. From my experience so far at CMC, there is a clear devotion to shaping residents to practice at the top of their license. The preceptors and staff are equally passionate as they are welcoming. I am excited to grow as a professional and individual alongside my co-residents and explore with them the big city of Charlotte!

Research Project:Comparison of fixed dose aPCC, 4F-PCC, and weight based regimens
Why CMC?: When searching for a PGY1 program, I knew that I wanted to train at a large academic medical center that offered a wide variety of rotation options and would challenge me with a high acuity patient population. I was also looking for a program that had a strong teaching and learning curriculum that would allow me to develop my precepting and presentation skills. During my interview at CMC, it was clear that the supportive preceptors here would not only challenge me but aid in my growth personally and professionally. Carolinas Medical Center places a large emphasis on mentorship and well-being/ resilience which is crucial for a successful residency year. Lastly, after living in Ohio my entire life I am excited to explore all that Charlotte has to offer!

Why CMC?: During my search for a PGY-1 residency, I was very interested in Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center because of the variety of rotation opportunities with high acuity patients and knowledgeable preceptors committed to their residents’ success. The hospital is a level 1 trauma center and academic medical center that is an exceptional learning environment for residents. CMC provides residents with the ability to complete longitudinal projects and research in addition to obtaining a teaching and learning certificate. The PGY-1 program prepares their residents to function as highly performing clinical pharmacists and pursue a PGY-2 in a specialty area of pharmacy. CMC is committed to helping advance their residents professionally and personally. Lastly, Charlotte is a great place to live, and I am looking forward to exploring the city with my co-residents!

Research Project: Impact of complete vs. Partial course of fidaxomicin for C.difficile infection
Why CMC?: During the residency application process, I was seeking a program that offered rotation opportunities in my clinical areas of interest and teaching experience. CMC sparked my interest at baseline because it is a large academic medical center with Level I Trauma designation, seven ICUs, an extensive antimicrobial stewardship program and a transplant center. Such an advanced practice environment provides exposure to a high acuity and immunocompromised patient population, one in which I felt would optimize the diversity and complexity of clinical cases I am exposed to during my rotational experiences. Furthermore, with only 4 required rotations, CMC allows extensive personalization of resident rotation schedules, which made me certain I would be able to take advantage of the opportunities in my areas of interest. After meeting the preceptors, current residents and RPD during my interview, I was certain that CMC was right for me. I felt and still feel immense support from the entire pharmacy community at CMC, their kindness and encouragement has been the perfect balance between guidance with empathy for the student-to-resident transition and challenge with purpose.

Why CMC?: CMC has everything I was looking for in a PGY1 program: a large academic medical center with high acuity patients and teaching opportunities. Pharmacy is included in all of the phases of care and are valued members of the healthcare team. There are also a variety of rotations to choose from so we can get a variety of experiences in areas that we want to learn more about. I also really appreciate that wellness and resiliency are integrated into the program. I feel like I am truly valued as a resident and have so many resources to help me succeed. Everyone here is so nice and helpful and I know I will be supported throughout the year.
