Specialty Pharmacy Service
The Atrium Health Specialty Pharmacy Service (AH SPS) is a health-system-integrated outpatient medication service providing care coordination and clinical services for patients treated with high-touch, high-dollar, self-administered specialty medications. AH SPS has 19 clinical service lines within the disciplines of oncology, hematology, inflammatory disease, hepatology, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disease, cardiology, HIV, pulmonology, cystic fibrosis, bleeding disorders and others serving over 10,000 patients annually across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. AH SPS is dual accredited by URAC and ACHC with oncology distinction.
Carolinas Medical Center
the largest facility in Atrium Health. An advanced mainframe computer system, computerized physician order entry, Omnicell dispensing machines, Med-Carousel, and McKesson Robot-RX support medication distribution. Approximately 17,000 doses per day are dispensed from the inpatient pharmacy. IV therapy is an integral part of the CMC pharmacy department; in addition to preparation of routine IV admixtures (approximately 1,600 admixtures per day), pharmacists review and prepare approximately 60-70 3-in-1 hyperalimentation solutions and 73 oncologic admixtures per day. The department is also responsible for the preparation of intravenous investigational products. Pharmacy services are provided 24 hours a day. Decentralized pharmacy services are provided from 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. Clinical staff pharmacists are responsible for order verification, pharmacokinetic monitoring and consults, renal dosing, pharmacy interchanges, including IV to PO, providing drug information and reporting adverse drug events.
CarolinaCARE
CarolinaCARE, located in Charlotte, is the home-delivery pharmacy for those insured on Atrium Health's employee health and prescription drug plan. CarolinaCARE is also home to the specialty pharmacy dispensing services for any contracted insurers. The pharmacy employs over 30 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who provide quality care and excellent customer service through a variety of clinical and pharmacy services. Atrium Health's insurance plan covers over 100,000 employees and their dependents in all of Atrium's markets including the Charlotte Metro region, Atrium Health Navicent, Atrium Health Floyd and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Clinical pharmacists at CarolinaCARE provide chronic disease state management (diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, heart failure, asthma, COPD, etc.) for those on Atrium Health's insurance plan, as well as engage in plan design, benefit investigation, and utilization management.
