Why you chose CMC:
I was really blown away by the environment and interactions I had during the interviews and second look. It was important for me to have a program that was supportive with fun people, and I found that at CMC.

What you love about living in/moving to Charlotte:
As an NC native, I love all that the state has to offer, but there's so much to do in Charlotte! Here, you can enjoy the city life while still being close to the beach, the mountains, and fun places like the whitewater center and Carowinds.

What you see yourself doing in 10 years:
Living in North Carolina, practicing EM in the community or being involved in teaching, while keeping up with my crafting hobbies.

Why you chose CMC:
My acting internship at CMC left me with a really strong impression of the program and I just felt at home with the residents, faculty, and nursing staff I worked alongside. Everyone was authentic, welcoming, and personable, while showing a visible interest in my learning and development. Residents were confident, well-respected, supportive of each other, and appeared genuinely happy here. Nursing staff and pharmacists were friendly, patient, and incredibly helpful. I left my rotation knowing I would be well-trained, supported by both my program leadership & co-residents, and enjoy the people I worked with. CMC also checked a lot of boxes for me with its strong didactics, longitudinal pediatric exposure, split 50/50 trauma, robust ultrasound curriculum, heavy critical care experience, sim, and great salary/benefits. Some of the EM community's leading experts in airway, ultrasound, and ECG are faculty at CMC, so having the opportunity to work alongside and learn from them firsthand was also something I greatly valued.

What you love about living in/moving to Charlotte:
Charlotte has lots of great local restaurants, breweries, and parks with fairly minimal traffic compared to other major cities. The weather here is also beautiful (I say that as someone from the PNW). For the outdoors types, the White-Water Center is only 20 minutes away and offers white-water rafting, mountain biking, deep water soloing, yoga, etc. If you want to get out of the city, it's only 2 hours to the mountains and 4 hours to the beach.

What you see yourself doing in 10 years:
Most likely working in a community ED and teaching at a medical school, but I haven't excluded the possibility of the academic route.

Why I chose CMC:
I fell in love with this program during my away rotation! I immediately felt so welcomed and like I had found my home away from home. The faculty, residents, nurses, and techs were all so supportive and friendly while still encouraging us to step outside of our comfort zones. It was also reassuring to see how often the residents and significant others in the program spent time together outside of the hospital.

What I love about Charlotte:
I love how much there is to do in Charlotte as well as the surrounding areas! There are adorable coffee shops, breweries,  restaurants, live music venues, and parks in the area that my husband and I have enjoyed getting to explore. There is also the greenway that is a beautiful place for biking or walking through Charlotte. Plus it’s close to both the mountains and the beach for easy day/weekend trips!

What I see myself doing in 10 years:
I hope to find a balance between community practice and academics! I’m really passionate about teaching and would love to have a role with a medical school helping teach procedures and run simulations. Outside of work though I would love to be spending time traveling the world, raising a family, and spending time with family and friends.

Why I chose CMC:
I chose CMC because from the moment I rotated here as a 4th-year medical student, I felt like part of the family. The environment was welcoming and supportive, with faculty and residents who were genuinely invested in my growth. I was also impressed by how confident and skilled the residents were—managing a busy board, moving seamlessly between a Level I trauma and a medical resuscitation, and doing it all with remarkable competence. I knew I wanted to train at a high-volume Level I trauma center, and I was drawn to CMC being the only one in the city, ensuring that residents see the full spectrum of trauma care without dividing cases among multiple hospitals. The training here is truly unparalleled, and learning from such dedicated, world-class faculty makes it an exceptional place to grow.

What I love about Charlotte:
Charlotte is one of my favorite places I’ve ever lived. The city is young, vibrant, and full of life, with endless breweries, restaurants, and fun activities like the Whitewater Center and Carowinds. Its location is perfect—you’re just two hours from the mountains and three from the ocean. My husband and I were able to buy a home only 12 minutes from the hospital, where we live with our three dogs and six backyard ducks. I love that Charlotte offers both the excitement of a growing city and the space for us to build a little homestead!

What I see myself doing in 10 years:
I hope to stay in the Charlotte area and potentially complete a fellowship in disaster medicine or EMS. One thing I know for certain—we’ll have even more animals by then!

Why you chose CMC
CMC is the perfect balance of an academic and community hospital. We have some of the best Emergency Medicine faculty in the country teaching us evidence-based medicine while also getting to treat patients of all backgrounds. There is the perfect balance of consultants which allows our emergency department to attract very sick patients while also still giving us the opportunity to manage these patients in the ED alongside consultant guidance when needed.

What you love about living in/moving to Charlotte:
Charlotte is a city full of great restaurants, sports games, and parks! It is also a very temperate southern city giving us all four seasons but never getting too cold!

What you see yourself doing in 10 years:
In 10 years, I hope to work at an academic hospital training the next generation of Emergency Medicine physicians.
