Leslie Adcock, MD
Dr. Adcock grew up in a small town in upstate South Carolina, frequently traveling to Charlotte to visit the city. She completed her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Wake Forest University and received her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. She returned to Wake Forest for her residency in Family Medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem. She joined Atrium Health in 2021 serving the Denver, NC community as a local community family physician. In 2024, she joined Elizabeth Family Medicine to be closer to family in Charlotte and pursue her love of teaching and training our future physicians. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family. She loves anything outdoors and going on walks with her dog, Dash.

Rebekah Aurie, MD
Dr. Rebekah Aurie is a board-certified family medicine physician and specializes in full spectrum family medicine including newborn, pediatric, adult, and obstetric care for her patients. Dr. Aurie earned her Bachelor of Health Science from the University of Florida and her Doctor of Osteopathy from Western University of Health Sciences of the Pacific in California. She completed her residency at Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program in North Carolina. After residency, she joined Cabarrus Family Medicine as clinical faculty. It was here that she fell in love with North Carolina and developed her passion for teaching future family physicians. She joined CMC Family Medicine Residency Program in 2024 as Director of Maternal Child Health. She serves as Clinical Assistant Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. While her clinical expertise spans comprehensive family medicine in the inpatient and outpatient setting, she particularly enjoys obstetrics and prenatal care, women’s health and preventative care, obesity and weight management, Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), and outpatient procedures ranging from women’s health procedures to trigger point/joint injections to skin procedures. Outside of medicine, Dr. Aurie enjoys outdoor activities including camping and kayaking, spending time with her family and friends, and cheering on the Charlotte Checkers and Charlotte FC.

Allison K. Bickett, PhD
Director of Behavioral Medicine Education
Dr. Allison Bickett earned a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology (UNC Charlotte) and an MS in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience. Leads the longitudinal behavioral medicine curriculum, mentoring residents in mental health interviewing and integration across inpatient, outpatient, diabetes, and HIV care. Active in physician well-being initiatives and co-facilitates the Art of Medicine program.

Michele Birch, MD
Dr. Birch is the Associate Dean of Preclerkship Education, Charlotte Campus for Wake Forest School of Medicine. A graduate of Stanford University and the University of Virginia School of Medicine, she completed her Family Medicine residency at Carolinas Medical Center, serving as Co-Chief Resident. After five years in private practice, she joined the faculty in 2006 and completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona. She leads the Integrative Medicine curriculum for residents and medical students.

Dellyse Bright, MD
Dr. Bright is Vice Chair of Education and Academic Environment & Experience at the Family Medicine Residency at Carolinas Medical Center. Originally from Baltimore, she completed medical school and residency at the University of Maryland. Her clinical interests include women’s health, pediatrics, and weight management. Before joining CMC, she practiced in South Carolina and later served as faculty at Cabarrus Family Medicine. She became Site Director at Biddle Point in 2013 and Program Director in 2016 – 2022.

Kristen Benton, AGPCNP
Kristen Geye is a Family Nurse Practitioner with a background in biochemistry and nursing, completing her MSN at Vanderbilt University. She trained through a geriatric fellowship at Atrium Health, gaining experience in long-term care, memory clinic, palliative care, and hospice. She currently serves with the Advanced Illness Management team, focusing on patients with advanced conditions. Her interests include geriatrics, dementia care, and end-of-life decision making.

Rebecca Hayes, MD
Dr. Hayes is a Charlotte native and Navy veteran who completed her medical degree at MUSC and residency at Naval Hospital Bremerton. She served in multiple military locations before joining Cabarrus Family Medicine as Director of Maternity Services. Since 2016, she has led Elizabeth Family Medicine as Medical Director. Her interests include women’s health, maternity care, pediatrics, medical education, procedures, and quality improvement.

Erin Huston, DO
Dr. Huston is board-certified in Family and Geriatric Medicine and has served as a Geriatrician with Atrium Health since 2017. A graduate of Nova Southeastern University and fellowship-trained in geriatrics, she has held leadership roles in skilled nursing facilities and served as Medical Director of the Geriatric Advanced Practitioner Fellowship. She joined the Geriatric Faculty in 2023 and is passionate about teaching, aging care education, and helping patients establish personalized goals of care.

Darin Kennedy, MD
Dr. Kennedy is a North Carolina native and Wake Forest graduate who completed his residency at Carilion Health System. He served for eight years in the U.S. Army as a family physician and flight surgeon, including deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom. After his military service, he returned to North Carolina to focus on clinical care and teaching. His interests include general practice, pediatrics, and minor procedures. Outside of medicine, he enjoys music, guitar, and writing novels.

Emily Manlove, MD
Dr. Manlove is the Associate Program Director at Elizabeth Family Medicine. She earned her MD and MPH after completing residency at Via Christi in Wichita and an academic fellowship with KU-Wichita. She later taught medical students and practiced in Indiana before relocating to Charlotte. Her interests include care for medically and socially complex patients, hospital medicine, and global health. Outside of work, she enjoys outdoor adventures, cooking, and traveling with her husband, son, and dog.

Anthony Martin, MD
Dr. Martin earned his medical degree from Temple University and completed his family medicine residency at The Reading Hospital, where he was chief resident. He then completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center and joined the faculty. He teaches across the residency and fellowship programs and serves as team physician for East Mecklenburg High School and UNC Charlotte. A former competitive boxer, he has a special interest in sports coverage, including combat sports.

Dr. Miao is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed her residency at CMC Family Medicine and served as a PGY-4 Chief Resident and Junior Faculty Fellow. Now a board-certified family physician at Elizabeth Family Medicine, she is passionate about academic medicine and preventive care. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Charlotte with friends and family.

Virginia Nelson, FNP
Ginny is a nurse practitioner with a strong background in geriatric care and a passion for serving rural and medically complex populations. She has volunteered with Remote Area Medical and is an active member of several professional organizations focused on geriatrics and advanced nursing. She joined Atrium Health Elizabeth Family Medicine in 2024 to continue her work in geriatrics, expand into adult family medicine, and contribute to education through the Geriatric Medical Faculty.

Dupal Patel, MD
Dr. Patel is board-certified in Family and Geriatric Medicine and joined Atrium Health in 2018 as a faculty member at Elizabeth Family Medicine and the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. A graduate of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, she completed residency at Cleveland Clinic and a geriatrics fellowship at Summa Akron City Hospital. She has expertise in cognitive assessments, interdisciplinary care, and post-acute medicine. She enjoys teaching and spending time with her family and young children.

Dr. Royer is the Director of Inpatient Medicine and Core Faculty at Atrium Health CMC Family Medicine Residency. A Charlotte native and UNC Chapel Hill graduate, she completed residency in the Elizabeth track at CMC, where she was House Staff Liaison Committee President. She previously served as faculty at Cabarrus Family Medicine, practicing full-spectrum care. Her interests include hospital medicine, maternity care, women’s health, and weight management. She enjoys music, skiing, and cheering on UNC and the Panthers.

Lindsay Shade, PA, MHS
Lindsay Shade is a physician assistant who has practiced family medicine in Charlotte since graduating from the Duke University PA Program in 2006. She is the Director of Clinical Trials and Quality in the Department of Family Medicine, leading research focused on chronic disease management and shared decision making. Her clinical interests include pediatrics, women’s health, and preventive care. Outside of work, she enjoys running, tennis, yoga, jewelry making, and cheering on Carolina basketball.

Shala Sundaram, MD
Dr. Sundaram is the Program Director of the CMC Family Medicine Residency Program. With a background in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech, she earned her medical degree from Ross University and completed residency at Stamford Hospital/Columbia University. She completed faculty development fellowships at UMass and UNC. She previously served as founding program director at LewisGale Medical Center in Virginia. She brings a passion for innovation, education, and bridging technology with patient care.

Priscilla Tutu, MD
Though born in Italy, Dr. Priscilla Tutu is proud to call Raleigh, North Carolina home. She is an Alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Ross University School of Medicine. During medical school, Dr. Tutu valued the connections she made with patients during her Family Medicine rotation the most. She completed her residency training at LSU Lafayette Family Medicine Program in Louisiana.
Dr. Tutu is a board-certified Family Medicine physician and completed her Geriatric Medicine fellowship at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. She finds fulfillment in teaching and providing comprehensive care while serving as an advocate for her patients.
Dr. Tutu is excited to join the Geriatric Medical Faculty at Atrium Health in Charlotte where she will continue to serve older adults and their caregivers across multiple care settings.
When not supporting learners or geriatric patients and their families, she enjoys exploring new restaurants, spending quality time with her family and cheering on the best college basketball team in the world. Go Tar Heels!!
