Elim ChaoElim Chao, MD
4th Year Chief Resident 2024-2025
It is my promise to treat my patients as I would want my loved ones to be treated. The Hippocratic Oath that I swore by stated many things but the statement most important to me was, “I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.”

Dr. Chao attended UNC-Chapel Hill for her undergraduate studies, received a Master of Biomedical Sciences from the Wake Forest Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and then completed medical school at the Wake Forest School of Medicine. She completed residency at CMC Family Medicine, earning the Family Medicine Resident Award for Scholarship for her work in PrEP and HIV research. Board Certified in Family Medicine, she is currently PGY-4 Chief Resident and working as an attending physician at Biddle Point Family Practice.

Her areas of interest include academic medicine, LGBTQ+ health and gender affirming care, HIV medicine, and women's health. She is pursuing her AAHIV credentials at this time. While not at work, she can often be found at the Charlotte Regional Farmer's Market, various plant nurseries and thrift shops, and any store that serves coffee or bubble tea.
